Hi there...
I just thought that I would get started and see what we wanted to accomplish with this project. I like the ideas that we have so far...some type of children's food education and experimentation with a community fundraiser. I feel like we should have some focus on nutrition and healthy choices, and I think that it would be great if we had students creating recipes and making a classroom cookbook too.
Is there anything specific that we need to cover? Is there anything else that we want to cover?
I would like to add special diets under nutrition (food allergies, diabetes, religious preferences). I have a tentative concept map done and if we're all on tonight we can discuss what to add or remove from it.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds good to me! I'm on right now, if you want to talk about things. :)
ReplyDeleteHere are some of my ideas for the concept map:
ReplyDeleteCOOKING IN THE CLASSROOM
*Reading Recipes - converting measurements (math), actually measuring food (wet and dry ingredients), researching recipes (history), safety precautions in the kitchen (contamination and sharp knives)
*Classroom Community - family style meals in classroom, classroom garden, learning and experimenting with food together
*Developing new recipes - experimenting with food and existing recipes, learning about good combinations and spices/seasoning
NUTRITION
*Food Guide Pyramid - serving sizes, daily recommendations, healthy choices
*Exercise
SPECIAL DIETS
*Food Allergies
*Diabetes
*Religious
TABLE MANNERS/ETIQUETTE
*How to set a table properly
*Manners
*Dinner Party Etiquette
COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER
*Various causes that the students would like to support (pick one)
*Research - how to run one smoothly and successfully
*Get the word out to the community - newspaper ads, signs, word of mouth, internet, radio, TV
*Cookbook - developing recipes, organization, selling price with proceeds to charity of classes choice
Please feel free to add or delete things; this is just a rough idea list for us to get started on our project! Let me know what you both think. :)
